The Flaming Barrel Race - UK

The tar barrel race shown above is a traditional sport that started in Devon, England, and is still popular there today. It involves contestants running a set course while carrying a burning barrel of tar on their shoulders. The winner is the first person to cross the finish line with the barrel still on fire. The race is usually part of a bigger event, and the fastest racers get prizes.
This fiery custom has its roots in the 1600s, when Guy Fawkes Night was celebrated in the UK on November 5th.
