El Colacho in Spain

El Colacho, or the devil jump, is a traditional Spanish festivity that has been around since 1620. Every year, it takes place in the tiny community of Castrillo de Murcia. During the celebration, men dressed as the devil, or "Colacho," jump over babies who were born that year and are lying on a mattress in the street. People say that the custom cleanses the babies of original sin and keeps them safe from bad spirits.
It's hard to believe, but the newborns in this picture don't look scared. Some of them even look like they're smiling! We have to confess that we might be a little more worried if we spotted a man in a flashy costume trying to jump over us.
