Wife Carrying World Championships in Finland, Estonia, and the US

Every year, Finland, Estonia, and the United States hold the Wife Carrying Championship. Husbands try to get through an obstacle course while carrying their wives in this event. People can carry their spouses in three different ways: piggyback, over the shoulder, or Estonian style, where her legs hang over her shoulder. The couple that finishes the course the fastest is the winner. What is the prize? The amount of beer the woman drank!
The event has some dark roots. The race is based on an old Finnish story about a man who stole his neighbor's wife and ran away with her in the late 1800s.
