Cockroach Racing in Australia

Yes, you heard properly. It sounds fairly bad, doesn't it? Every year on Australia Day, there is a cockroach race that starts in 1982. If you don't know what cockroach racing is, it's when people put live cockroaches in an arena with a circular track and have them race one other. The cockroach that gets to the finish line or the right position first usually wins.
People frequently race cockroaches for fun or to make money. People frequently think of cockroach racing as a strange and funny sport. It has become popular in other places as well. For example, the Pest Control Association of New Jersey holds a cockroach race every four years before election day in the US.
