Basket Fungus

We don't know about you, but we can declare with confidence that we've never seen a mushroom with small hexagons or pentagons. It looks like a little, oddly shaped football. We can find out quickly on Google that this fungus is called Ileodictyon ciborium, which is also known as basket fungus. People say that this fungus is edible in its early stages and is common in Australia and New Zealand.
We can't picture this fungus being a tasty snack, so we probably wouldn't eat it. But it's interesting that when the fungus gets older, it smells badโ€”gross!
