8. Dogs

Dogs have been able to do what scientists call a "theory of mind." This basically means that dogs know that other people have feelings, wants, or reasons for doing things that are substantially different from their own. Dogs do this a lot, especially when they can read between the lines of human behavior, such following hand gestures and even eye movements. Dogs can also be taught to understand human language. For example, Rico, a dog, learned the names of more than 200 things.
