The studio didn't want Marlon Brando to play Don Vito Corleone in The Godfather at first, but they changed their minds after seeing his audition tape. In the tape, he used shoe polish to make his hair black and slicked it back.

Brando filled his cheeks with Kleenex to make his lips look like a bulldog. The directors were so amazed with how he used everyday things that they realized he would be a great fit.
