Greg Cannom was the makeup artist for the movie Vice, and he had to turn Christian Bale into Dick Cheney. He used a rubber-mask grease makeup that could be put on rubber and appliances. It let the makeup last longer and made it look authentic.

Cannom utilized multiple hues of foundation and added reds to make the skin look as authentic as possible. He mentioned that on some days of filming, they had to take off the makeup and repaint it for a different part of his life.
