Just Using Common Sense

It might be annoying when tests require you to explain something you already know is true. It may seem like a lot of work to write out how you got to an answer, but that's how you receive the mark. But this student was not in the mood to be looked down on. Their response, "Because I am not an idiot," shows that they don't enjoy being talked down to.
This youngster might just be much smarter than their classmates, and this answer is a hint that they need to be in a harder class.
