Because of notable development delays and cost overruns, India's Kolkata Class destroyers have drawn criticism. Native creation of important systems has raised doubts about their dependability and performance. Though ambitious, the air defense capacity of the boats has drawn criticism for possible coverage shortcomings.  

Combining several military systems from different countries has sparked questions on system compatibility and maintenance difficulty.
